Our first big funding injection!

December 1, 2019
Dear Friends,

After a year of waiting, we finally received notification just before Christmas that we were successful in securing not only significant funding from the Canadian Oil Sands Innovation Alliance (COSIA), and Alberta Innovates, but matching funds from the Canadian Government (NSERC-CRD) to initially develop our technology for the detection of caribou fecal samples.

This will enable industry to quickly detect caribou, a threatened, important migratory species here in Canada, which is essential to ensuring the species is not impacted by oil sands operations and valuable habitat protected throughout their seasonal migrations. The funding will pay for the research, a PhD student at McMaster University and a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Calgary.

We now have a full multi-disciplinary team encompassing Chemical Engineering, functional nucleic acid research and conservation genetics!
